Surfing Senses Poem

Surfing Senses Poem:)

I feel the salty water running down my sore throat as the end of our journey begins.

I hear people screaming with joy as the waves crash loudly amongst the hard rocks.

I taste a delicious brownie as my hunger flows free after all that time.

I see dogs chasing each other with happiness in their faces while the beautiful ocean roams freely.

I touch my lucky surfboard as the waves approach me for my last chance to catch a perfect wave.

First Person Point-of-view

First Person Point-of-view

Last week Rimu class had a writing task explaining what point of view R.J Palacio used when writing the story ‘Wonder’.(eg. first person, second person.) We also had to find examples from the text. To write the short essay we had to have an Introduction, ⅔ examples from the text and a conclusion. I think the story ‘Wonder’ is amazing the story really hooks you in. I hope you enjoy my essay!

‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when they see him. This is R.J Palacio’s first novel and it is written in the first person.

In the first paragraph it shows that the story is first person because Auggie says,
I know i’m not an ordinary ten-year-old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an Xbox.”

Another example is,
I was really bummed when Christopher moved away three years ago. We were both seven. I remember we used to play with our star wars action figures a lot together.”

Furthermore the last example is that when Auggie first starts middle school he says
"I can't say that I always wanted to go school because that wouldn't exactly be true."

These are all reasons that state that the story 'WONDER' by RJ Palacio
is written in first person. I enjoy this book and think it is amazing. I can’t wait to hear more of it!
